The Boverket grant is a state support aimed at helping homeowners reduce their home's energy use and energy costs. Unlike tax deductions, this is a direct cash grant paid after the renovation is completed.

The grant focuses only on energy-saving improvements, such as upgrading your heating system or improving insulation, windows, or doors. It is not intended for general renovations like kitchens, bathrooms, or cosmetic upgrades.

Another important difference compared to ROT-avdrag is that only material costs are covered. Labour costs are not included in this grant.

The application is handled through Boverket, and the decision is administered by your County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen). The grant is usually paid out after the work is finished and approved.

Because this grant depends on state funding, it is only available during specific application periods and may change over time.

The ROT-avdrag helps homeowners lower the cost of renovations by reducing the labour cost of the work. It is not a cash grant. Instead, the discount is applied directly on the invoice from the contractor, so you pay less from the start.

ROT-avdrag applies to renovation, repair, and maintenance work in your home, such as electrical work, plumbing, painting, or rebuilding parts of the house. It does not cover materials - only the labour cost.

You do not need to apply to the tax authority yourself. The contractor handles the deduction and requests the money from Skatteverket. The only requirement is that you have paid enough income tax during the year to use the deduction.

ROT-avdrag is available all year round and can be combined with other supports (such as the Boverket grant or Grön teknik deduction), as long as the same work is not claimed twice.

Eligibility Requirements

Our platform automatically checks these for you

To be eligible for the ROT-avdrag, you generally must:

  • Own and live permanently in the home (house, apartment, or owner-occupied flat)
  • Have paid enough income tax in Sweden
  • Hire a contractor with F-tax registration
  • Only claim labour costs (materials are excluded)
  • Use ROT-avdrag for renovation, repair, or maintenance work
  • Not use ROT-avdrag for the same work as another deduction

The Grön teknik deduction helps homeowners reduce the cost of installing energy-smart and climate-friendly technology in their home. It works as a tax deduction, meaning the discount is applied directly on the installer's invoice, so you pay less upfront.

This deduction applies to specific installations that produce, store, or use electricity in a more sustainable way, such as solar panels, home batteries, and electric vehicle chargers. Unlike ROT-avdrag, this deduction covers both labour and material costs.

You do not need to apply to the tax authority yourself. The installer handles the deduction and requests the money from Skatteverket. As with ROT-avdrag, you must have paid enough income tax during the year to benefit from it.

The Grön teknik deduction can be used in the same year as ROT-avdrag or other support schemes, as long as the same installation is not claimed twice.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Not combine it with ROT-avdrag for the same installation
